The Gingerbread Lady Bakery

The Gingerbread Lady Bakery is a homegrown bakery located at 109 Van Riebeeck Avenue in Edenvale, Johannesburg. Established in 2015, we are passionate about creating cakes that evoke nostalgic homemade flavors, infused with a contemporary twist in both taste and design.

We specialize in stylish buttercream cakes, delectable French macarons, irresistible gourmet cupcakes, brownies, and more. Our enthusiasm for crafting exquisite baked goods continues to grow, and we are sincerely dedicated to the art of dessert making. Our mission is to provide every customer with delicious, beautiful, and memorable sweet treats for any occasion.

We are sought after for our gourmet cupcakes, show-stopping cakes, and freshly made macarons, delighting customers with every bite.

OUR STORY

Natalie Wadsworth’s love affair with baking began in childhood when her late Ouma taught her how to make her first peppermint crisp tart. However, it wasn’t until late 2015 that she decided to take a leap of faith and turn her passion into a business, baking for people beyond her close friends and family.

She nervously stood at her first bake sale at a local farmers’ market, unaware that it would mark the start of a sweet and successful journey. The overwhelmingly positive response led her to take on private orders for cakes and desserts. With hard work, long hours, and plenty of love, just two years later, she was able to leave her job and pursue her dream as a full-time baker and cake designer.

Adding to the magic, Natalie’s mother, Doreen, is the cookie and brownie master, whipping up treats that leave customers craving more, making this a dynamic mother and daughter duo who hand make each baked treat that leaves the store.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

With an average of 1,000 macarons made each week and our calendar fully booked two months in advance, The Gingerbread Lady Bakery continues to grow, expanding our reach to corporate clients, birthday celebrants, and event planners. We are also proud suppliers of our famous macarons to local Spar Supermarkets.

We offer a wide selection of buttercream-based cakes and cupcakes, each uniquely designed for special occasions—ensuring that no two creations from The Gingerbread Lady Bakery are ever the same. Our goal is to inspire and delight our clients with every sweet treat we create.

In 2019, we proudly opened our Artisan Store at 109 Van Riebeeck Avenue in Edenvale, providing a space for customers to experience our handcrafted baked goods firsthand.
